It's a well known fact that I am amused by the simple things in life. The simple things, and the shiny things. My good friend and I have been known to lose all interest in a conversation when we see something shiny or sparkly...sometimes we even run after it if it seems worth it.
By simple, I mean things like:
- watching the sun set over the mountains when it's that gorgeous pink-purple color
- being outside just after it rains
- stupid kids jokes (i.e. "What did the zero say to the eight? Nice belt!")
- new gagdets
- enjoying a good belly laugh with close friends
- Wal-Mart
- a special glance across the room from someone you love
- cheap rings that border on gaudy (but hey, they sparkle!)
- staying bed all day on a Sunday watching movies
- sitting on the deck early Saturday morning, reading and sipping tea
- sitting in the hot tub late at night watching the stars
- running through sprinklers on hot days
- hanging out at toy stores
- 2 words - Bouncy. Ball.
- looking at photographs
- taking stupid pictures with friends
- text messaging
- the smell of fresh laundry
- having my cat curl up behind me at night
- seeing how happy the dog is when I get home
- gerber daisies
- stepping in the warm shower while still more than half asleep
- using the Swiffer on the hardwood
- loading the dishwasher
- browsing in Chapters for hours on end
- going for a drive to the country just because
- stopping halfway thru a run on the mountain and just sitting...just me and my snowboard
- getting pickles as garnish when eating out
- laying in bed talking to someone special on the phone just before going to sleep
- the smell of a winter's night
- sitting by a campfire
- watching a lightning storm
- turning on the radio to hear your favorite song
- waking up early on the weekend, knowing that you don't have to go to work, yet still have the whole day to enjoy
- surprising someone you care about with something little, just to see them smile
See? Even though some of them are off the wall, all of these things bring a huge smile to my face just thinking about them. I don't need money and fancy things to make me happy. Just give me the simple things in life, the things that bring true joy to my soul.
It's that simple.
